Cookies. The miracle substance. Without them, humanity could not (Or perhaps it would be better to say would refuse to) continue. They are the basis on which our culture is founded, nearly as much so as chocolate; They are a traditional gift one gives to his or her sweetheart when they are courting, they are customarily offered as a sacrifice to Santa Claus every Christmas, and above all, they taste utterly, utterly delicious. So it was my good please to make cookies not once, but TWICE last week and sample their delectability.
RECIPE #1: "Convenience" food
I don't really understand why this one is called a convenience recipe. It took just as long to make as the alternative. In fact I think that this Biscotti turned out better than the other recipe, as it was not nearly as crumbly and tasted equally good, if not better. If it weren't for the fact that I got to use a rolling pin as a weapon against a bunch of hapless hazelnuts in the other recipe, I would say that this recipe was far better than the other. I would definitely recommend you make this.
RECIPE #2: "Gourmet" food
Once again I find it difficult to understand why this is considered "Gourmet." It tasted just as good and took just as long to make as the other recipe. It was far crumblier, as well, and so it took longer to rearrange the Biscotti on their sides for toasting. While this was annoying, it was more than made up for by the euphoria induced by smashing hard objects to pieces with a marble rolling pin. (Yes, I know that makes me sound like a criminal, but fortunately the hard objects in question were merely hazelnuts.) I'd recommend this recipe if you like your Biscotti very crumbly.
And thus last week's food comparison is concluded. Farewell.
Thank you, Ben.
ReplyDeleteAs you carefully pointed out, these two recipes were NOT "convenience" and "gourmet" food. Instead they were "variations on a theme". I'm sorry I didn't make that clear.
Well done.
